My 'Not So Secret" Addiction - Midnight Madness

SO... I've finally realized it... I am an addict. It all started yesterday morning when I found this amazingly beautiful chair while perusing Craigslist for some goodies to wrap up my Single Girl Bachelor Project. When I saw her my body filled with that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you are in love and my heart began to beat faster. I knew I had to have her! After several messages with her lovely owner (well, previous owner), I found out that there were two!

All day they were running through my mind and I knew exactly what I wanted to do to bring some new life into them. After picking them up, heading to the fabric store to pick out the perfect fabric to cover the seats with, and a quick hardware store trip, I was all set. Only problem was... It was 7:00 pm and dark outside. How was I going to sand and paint?!?!

Now, when you have an addiction like mine, things seem logical that may not appear to be so if one was not thinking in the heat of passion. Like, "lets start a sanding project at 7:00 in the evening, in the middle of my living room". This is when I knew I had a problem... LOL!

In any case, I am thoroughly pleased with the outcome. After sanding, a light white wash and seat reupholstering these ladies are sexy as ever! These are the type of chairs that I know I will continue to have a love affair with and change every so often. Hope you enjoy them as much a I do!

(Boy am I going to be tired today... Need some green tea pronto!)

Have a great day Small Space Dwellers!

XOXO,

The Addict

The 4th Quarter - My Winter Decor Cycle

December 1st and my 4th decor change cycle is fast approaching! As I've mentioned before I update my decor four times a year with the seasons and with the temperature dropping I've been searching for what winter decor elements I can incorporate into my space this year. Last year I had an antiques silver and gold theme going with pops of purple. This year I'm not quite sure where I will take it; so if anyone out there can relieve my creative mind, do offer your suggestions and share your ideas! I would love to hear them!

I've already collected some great vintage finds that I will share with you all soon, but I still need to pull the whole winter decor palette together. So until then, here is a collage of awesome winter decor ideas I have found along my internet surfing travels.  You can also follow my 'Winter Decor' board on Pinterest for some more inspiration. Enjoy!

How to Choose a Colour Scheme - Colour Inspiration

For colour inspiration follow my Pinterest board Colour Inspiration or check out the AWESOME Design Seed website.

One question that I get a lot is "what is the right colour for my small space?" This is usually underlined with either a fear of colour or a fear that the colour chosen will make your already small space feel smaller. So let me help you take the fear out of it and share with you my motto on choosing a colour scheme for your home.

Step 1: Look For What You LOVE

When it comes to choosing a colour palette for your space, please start by removing yourself from the paint swatch aisles of your local hardware store and heading to the places and things (or people) that you love. Yes, the first place to start when selecting a colour palette is the places you love, because the secret is... There is no "right' colour for a small space". It is about how you want the room to feel, or better yet, how you want to feel in the room.

Maybe you absolutely love fashion; or you are an chef (or would like to think you are) and food gets your blood flowing; or you swoon at the sight of vintage or worn treasures like I do. Whether it is your closet or your kitchen, start there and select an element that is representative of it.

Step 2: Zone in on 5 Colours

Once you have selected the item, garment, or memory that brings you to your happy place, you want to zone in on 5 colours from it. Don't worry about whether they match or scare yourself if you find that there are colour outside of your comfort zone. The colours will naturally go together if your use then in the right way so don't fret. Let yourself be free to choose from within your element of inspiration.

Step 3: Decide Where to Put It

Now this is the scary part for most; deciding where to put the colours. Let's take the fear out of it and go back to how you want your space to feel. If you want your space to be bright and airy then choose the lighter colours in your 5 colour scheme as the base and put those colours on the larger elements in your space like your walls. Then use the other colours in the fabrics your choose or as accents. However, if you want your space to be vibrant, choose the more vibrant colours for the larger elements.

Remember that all colours work together when you put them together. Just repeat the colour choices in different elements throughout your space. Before you know it you would have created a space that you love and evokes the same wonderful feelings you get when you look at your element of inspiration.

Decorating with Fur (Faux Fur)

BRRR! Boy is it getting COLD and it snowed on and off all weekend! I'm not much of a winter person, I prefer the fall when the temperature is perfect for layering and boots and I'm not talking about the type of layering and boots that comes with "my nose is running" or "my fingers are frost bitten'.

On the up side, the arrival of our snow flaked friend and the temperature drop does bring about some good news. It's time to start thinking about getting your home all warm and cozy for the holidays. Every year I look forward to taking out the fur rug I made out of a $14 dollar faux fur coat I bought from Value Village and accessorizing for my chic winter lodge feel.

I love the way fur looks in the home. It has a way of making the home feel inviting and ready for getting close and snuggling. Not to mention it raises the chic factor. Here are some faux fur decorating inspiration to help get your gears turning with winter decor ideas.

Stay warm Small Space Dwellers.

XOXO
